Mattel Makes Donation to Save The Children For Hatian Earthquake Relief
EL SEGUNDO, Calif. (January 14, 2010) Mattel, Inc. today announced that in response to the recent tragic earthquake in Haiti, the company is making a donation of $10,000 (USD) to Save the Children, a Mattel philanthropic Signature Partner. Save the Children has been one of the first responders in Haiti, in part because of its more than 25 years of providing services there to children in need.
With Mattel's support, Save the Children immediately began working with other relief organizations and the local government in Haiti to assess needs and provide immediate relief for children and families, including food and non-food supplies, as well as plans to address health and hygiene needs from displacement.
In addition, Mattel continues to support the American Red Cross in its efforts around disaster relief globally. Recently, Mattel made a $15,000 (USD) donation to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund, which was set up to enable the American Red Cross to immediately respond to disasters locally and globally.
Because of the devastating nature of the current disaster, the Mattel Children's Foundation has opened its Employee Matching Gifts program to disaster relief donations on a worldwide basis. This program will double the impact of individual employee donations with a match to a US-registered charity supporting the current disaster relief efforts.
